Forbes has released its latest AI 50 list, a selection of companies shaping the future of artificial intelligence right now. It includes everything from the creators of large language models to startups building AI for medicine, law, and recruiting.

Important: This is not a ranking, but a curated list. The companies are listed alphabetically, without any division into «best» and «worst.» In fact, these are the 50 players that Forbes considers the most promising in the global AI market.

What this list shows

The authors of the list highlight several trends.

First, the AI market is no longer about a few giants. Alongside OpenAI, Anthropic, and Databricks, there are dozens of young companies already competing for attention and money.

Secondly, new labs are growing very quickly. The list immediately included startups created by former OpenAI leaders: Safe Superintelligence, Thinking Machines Lab, Reflection AI. And this is despite the fact that some of them are less than two years old.

Third, Europe is getting back into the game.   Among the 50 companies are several strong European players: Mistral AI, Synthesia, Black Forest Labs, Lovable, and Legora.

Fourth, AI has finally become applied. Many of the companies on the list solve very specific tasks: from doctor documentation to support automation or hiring.

And fifth, infrastructure is a new battlefield. The role of those who build the base for AI is growing: inference, clouds, data centers.

The full AI 50 list looks like this:
