US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order requiring technology companies to provide the government with priority access to their cutting-edge artificial intelligence models before they are officially launched.

According to CNN, this requirement is justified by the need to assess cybersecurity risks and protect critical infrastructure.

In particular, this decree requires companies involved in artificial intelligence to voluntarily share with the government access to new AI models that have enhanced cyber capabilities 30 days before access is provided to other partners or users.

Recall that the possibility of signing such an executive order has been discussed for some time. Trump was even going to sign it two weeks ago, but postponed the decision literally at the last hour.

It is worth noting that in the previous draft, which was planned before signing, the Trump Administration imposed stricter conditions on AI companies — it provided for a 90-day period for government officials to review AI models.

In this regard, several sources in the artificial intelligence industry told CNN that many AI companies are advocating for a shorter period for government pre-review of AI models, given how quickly the field is evolving.

According to a source familiar with the situation, a meeting with Trump on the subject helped push forward the new version of the executive order.

A White House spokesman said the order reflects Trump’s «common sense approach to working with AI businesses to balance innovation and security, cementing America’s continued global dominance in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.»

The publication reports that major companies involved in artificial intelligence collaborated directly with the White House on the development of this decree — this even applies to Anthropic, which the Pentagon has blacklisted.

«This executive order is an important step toward advancing innovation while protecting the safety of the American public. We applaud the administration’s efforts,» said Microsoft President Brad Smith.

In a statement on the matter, Chris Lehane, one of OpenAI’s top managers, called the decree «an important step forward.»

In turn, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has scheduled meetings at the White House and with several members of Congress on Wednesday.

Recall that in March of this year, the developer of the Claude artificial intelligence, Anthropic, filed two lawsuits against the US Department of War and other federal agencies. The reason was the government’s decision to grant the company the status of a «supply chain threat» after Anthropic refused to give the military unlimited access to its AI systems.

It later became known that Anthropic secretly informed the Trump administration about the Mythos model — despite a lawsuit against the Pentagon.
