His post sparked considerable interest in the community.

Ruslan Moiseenko, a Full Stack Engineer, agrees with the author of the post. «I agree, it’s a shame. Because then there is no understanding of who is a trainee, who is a junior, and so on. It has always been like this: a trainee is someone who still has to undergo training before having real experience on a real project,» he says. .

Oleksa Mashchyts, founder of the QA Ukraine community, notes that Trainee is a position in the company, not a level of specialist training. «Of course, this position is related to the level and implies that the level is the lowest. However, it is not worth strictly equating a trainee with a person without experience. Most IT courses do this to justify the sufficiency of the education they offer students. If there are many orders, but there are not enough people, this means that companies receive more money and can invest it in the development of young specialists. In such times, the requirements for trainees may decrease. In times when there are few orders, there are no budgets for anything other than performing actual work, so most companies generally refuse not only trainees, but also juniors,» he says.

According to Oleksa, this is a normal situation. «Business is not obliged to engage in education, because education is not its main activity and goal. But companies are happy to hire even without experience, if the candidate is smart and wants to continue learning (even independently),» the specialist is convinced.

According to engineer Mark Kravchenko, this simply shows the market that specialists of this level are not needed now. «What do they mean by this? To become a trainee, go and finish your bachelor’s degree, do half a year of practice at some enterprise during your studies, and then come to us. Why? Because there is a war in the country, the entire IT market has been transferred to the Indians,» he argues.

Meanwhile, Senior QA Engineer Borys Kuzmenko believes that the requirements described in the vacancy are adequate. «They seem to be normal requirements. Half a year of study and self-practice with or without courses — that’s it, in my opinion. They didn’t write: 3+ years in commercial IT. Or is a trainee a person from the street who wanted to become an IT specialist, but hasn’t done anything for it yet?» he notes.

Meanwhile, Vyacheslav asked recruiters for their opinions on the described case.

Viktoriya Tsvintarna, Recruiter at Netpeak Group, says that it is worth understanding that the requirements for vacancies are formed by the company, not the recruiter. «We are just doing our job — we are looking for candidates according to the given criteria. If it were up to us, no one would write the requirement „trainee with 10 years of experience“ — such a candidate simply does not exist or we would have to look for him forever. So the problem is clearly not in the recruiters, but in the unrealistic expectations of the companies. We ourselves understand the absurdity of such conditions and try to influence the adequacy of the profile where possible. Therefore, reproaching the recruiters for the fact that „we are not here“ is at least unfair. It is better to address these questions to the companies, because these requirements are their decision, not someone’s „whim“,» she wrote.

At the same time, Victoria agrees that the requirement for a trainee to have 0.5 years of experience is absurd.

«As a recruiter with experience, I give up! Judging by the post, GlobalLogic wants to find a person for a trainee position who already has commercial experience. What is the name of the position for a person who is NOT a trainee yet, but already has experience? A trainee is a position for a person who is already qualified to perform tasks, but still needs to undergo some training to start working on a real project. Isn’t that right? Then who is the one who worked on a real project, but is not yet qualified to work on a real project? Some kind of madness…», comments Full Stack Engineer and recruitment specialist Ruslan Moisienko .
