The director said this in an interview with French journalist Hugo Traver on the YouTube channel HugoDécrypte.
During the conversation, the journalist compared artificial intelligence to the Trojan horse featured in Nolan’s new film. Traver suggested that society is integrating AI into everyday life without realizing the potential negative consequences in the future.
Nolan responded to this comparison with his own vision of technology.
«I think AI is a Trojan horse, the contents of which everyone knows in advance. It’s more like a transparent horse made of glass,» the director noted, pointing to the obvious potential risks of the technology.
Nolan added that he has never seen a technology develop so quickly and at the same time arouse so much skepticism in society. He says that younger audiences are increasingly ignoring AI-generated content.
«Suspicion of AI is high, especially among young people. My children and their peers recognize such content on the Internet, classify it as AI-slut and simply filter it out. And this is a very healthy skepticism. New technologies give us opportunities, but we must evaluate not only the tools themselves, but also the motives of those who provide them,» Nolan emphasized.
Christopher Nolan is known for his skepticism of some modern technologies. In particular, he does not use smartphones. His film «The Odyssey», with a budget of $250 million, became the first feature film shot entirely on analog film and IMAX cameras.
