Trump: US has "almost resumed" intelligence sharing with Ukraine
US President Donald Trump announced that Washington has almost resumed intelligence sharing with Ukraine. He also said that he expects positive results from upcoming talks with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia.
US President Donald Trump announced that Washington has almost resumed intelligence sharing with Ukraine. He also said that he expects positive results from upcoming talks with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia.
According to Reuters, Trump, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on March 9, said that the United States was close to lifting the «pause» in intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
«We’re almost done,» Trump said, when asked if he was considering unblocking the transfer of intelligence to Ukraine.
Trump also expects positive results from talks between US and Ukrainian delegations scheduled for March 11 in Saudi Arabia, in particular to determine whether Ukraine is ready to make material concessions to Russia in order to end the war.
«I believe we will make significant progress this week,» he said.
A mineral extraction agreement will also be discussed, which would allow the US to gain access to Ukraine’s rare earth resources.
«They will sign a mineral agreement, but I want them to want peace… They haven’t shown it to the extent they should,» Trump said.
As a reminder, CIA Director John Ratcliffe stated that the United States has stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine as part of pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to force him to cooperate with Trump in holding peace talks with Russia.
On March 7, Maxar Technologies said it had cut off Ukraine’s access to its satellite imagery after the Trump administration suspended intelligence sharing with Kyiv. The company suggested that the company’s satellite imagery could be transferred to Ukraine «by a roundabout route.»
