Two years wasted. The Ground Forces criticized electronic warfare manufacturers for their dependence on Chinese components
Only a few Ukrainian companies produce their own electronic warfare equipment, while the majority of the market is still critically dependent on supplies from China.
Only a few Ukrainian companies produce their own electronic warfare equipment, while the majority of the market is still critically dependent on supplies from China.
This was emphasized by the Chief of Electronic Warfare of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maksym Skoretsky, at the Kyiv cUAS Meetup event, organized by the manufacturer of counter-drone systems Moodro and its innovation unit Moodro Innovation Hub.
Skoretsky harshly criticized the approach of many domestic manufacturers who are engaged in the usual resale or assembly of devices from ready-made Chinese parts (detectors and jammers).
"At this stage, only individual companies make their own decisions that do not depend on the Chinese market and incomprehensible factors at the border. Most manufacturers played exclusively with the Chinese detector and the Chinese jammer. Because of this, we lost two years and it is impossible to even imagine the amount of money," the military man noted.
He emphasized that the technologies for creating electronic warfare have been known for a long time, and it is time for Ukrainian engineers to stop looking for easy ways to enrich themselves on basic components. Instead, they need to invest time and resources in their own in-depth developments, modular systems, and non-standard solutions, because the Chinese market's capabilities for supplying basic solutions have already been exhausted .
He explained that in the conditions of modern warfare with large affected areas, moving bulky complexes by car becomes too difficult and dangerous.
"At this stage, we need absolutely clear and good modularity... We don't need large complexes on machines, as some dream of welding. At this stage, this no longer works," Skoretsky emphasized.
Instead, the front needs lightweight modular elements that can be quickly deployed on site, adapted to a specific range of threats (by adding or removing blocks), and easily supplied with power directly at the positions.
