Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), which makes semiconductors for the world's largest companies from Apple to Nvidia, posted record revenue last year since it went public in 1994.

TSMC reported December quarterly revenue that exceeded analysts' estimates: revenue in the fourth quarter amounted to 868.5 billion new Taiwan dollars ($26.3 billion), which is 38.8% more than last year, writes CNBC.

In 2024, TSMC's revenue was 2.9 trillion New Taiwan dollars, the highest annual sales volume since the company went public in 1994.

TSMC is considered the world's most advanced chipmaker, given its ability to produce cutting-edge semiconductors. The company is helped by strong demand for artificial intelligence chips, especially from Nvidia, as well as the continued improvement of semiconductors for smartphones.

Over the past 12 months, Taiwan-listed TSMC shares have risen 88%.

TSMC is investing heavily in building new factories abroad . For example, the company has invested $65 billion in just three factories in the US (two in Arizona and one in Phoenix).
