Samsung has become the largest chip manufacturer by 2024 and has overtaken Intel in the competition, according to a report from Gartner.
According to a Gartner report, in 2023, the South Korean giant Samsung lost its leadership to Intel, but returned to first place in 2024. The company gained a market share of 10.5%, and total revenue amounted to $66.5 billion.
Over the year, the company's shipments increased by 62.5% due to the recovery in prices for memory chips.
The top 10 largest chip manufacturers by production volume after Samsung Electronics and Intel include NVIDIA, Sk Hynix, Qualcomm, Micron technology, Broadcom, AMD, Apple, and Infineon Technologies.

Samsung, which was a key supplier of various chips such as DRAM, HBM and NAND for processors and GPUs, has lost prominent customers such as Nvidia due to overheating issues with Samsung's HBM memory chips, which are used to produce artificial intelligence GPUs.
However, recent reports suggest that the issues have been resolved and Samsung has received Nvidia certification, meaning Samsung's sales will increase even more this year.
The reports also mention that Samsung is having trouble perfecting its 3nm process technology. It also mentions that it is lagging behind other chip makers such as TSMC. The company is focusing on bringing 2nm chips to market as soon as possible.
