North Korean hackers have stolen $2 billion in cryptocurrency this year, significantly exceeding last year's figure.
According to a report by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, a significant portion of this amount comes from the largest digital heist in cryptocurrency history, when North Korean hackers stole $1.5 billion from the Bybit crypto exchange in February .
Thanks to this theft, the total volume of North Korea's cryptocurrency trophies, according to analysts, increased to at least $6.75 billion over the entire observation period, writes Bloomberg.
The study also showed that the volume of crypto assets stolen by it increased by almost 50% compared to last year, accounting for the lion's share of all stolen industry funds, the total volume of which from January to early December 2025 reached $3.4 billion.
For comparison, the amount of cryptocurrency stolen by North Korean hackers increases every year : in 2023 — $660.50 million, in 2024 — $1.34 billion, in 2025 — $2 billion.
It is no wonder that the Chainalysis report notes that “North Korea continues to pose the greatest state threat to cryptocurrency security.”
