The PM01 humanoid robot was launched in December 2024 by EngineAI. It has an incredible 320-degree waist rotation, a bionic design that mimics human movements, and a highly interactive main screen. Its design uses an aluminum alloy exoskeleton, writes Interesting Engineering.
The PM01 can travel at a speed of 7.2 km/h. It is equipped with a quick-release battery that provides up to two hours of operation on a single charge. It also has 24 degrees of freedom (DoF) for smooth, dynamic movement and 12 degrees of freedom in the joint motors for increased flexibility, helping to perform complex tasks.
Business versions of the robot cost about $12,000.
Currently, although the Shenzhen police are making limited use of the PM01 humanoid robots, they are assisting with patrols, potentially reducing the workload on officers.
Despite impressive progress, modern police robots are still far from the cutting-edge capabilities described in science fiction. However, the progress that has been made is impressive.
