China’s official newspaper stated in its editorial that the real purpose of Amodei’s essay was "an attempt to restrain the development of artificial intelligence in China through technological barriers and regulatory monopolies, support Washington’s monopolistic hegemony in cutting-edge technologies, and exclude China from the global artificial intelligence governance system."
As Reuters reports, the article in the Chinese publication substantiates the idea that such calls are a deliberate ploy by the United States.
"This 'silent cold war with artificial intelligence' is hypocritical and short-sighted. It will significantly increase the costs associated with trial and error, as well as the risks of losing control over the global development of artificial intelligence," the cited material states.
Recall that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on Saturday that the industry “must slow down the pace of improving the capabilities of artificial intelligence models.”
In turn, US President Donald Trump rejected calls from AI company executives to slow down the development of artificial intelligence.
