Setapp Mobile — an alternative app store for iOS devices in the EU from Ukrainian company MacPaw — will cease operations on February 16, 2026.
“Setapp Mobile is ending operations on February 16, 2026. The reason is changing and challenging business conditions that do not fit Setapp’s current business model,” says a message on the MacPaw support page.
For users in the EU who have access to iOS apps through a Setapp subscription, those apps will be removed from the platform after the closure date. Setapp advises users to back up any important data before then, as the apps will be inaccessible once the service is shut down. Setapp’s separate Mac app store, which operates under a subscription model, will continue to operate as usual.
Setapp Mobile was launched in September 2024 in open beta. According to MacPaw CEO Kosovan, the total investment in this project amounted to about $2 million , of which $1 million is a bank guarantee, which is required under the terms of the agreement with Apple to be able to launch Setapp Mobile.
Overall, MacPaw was one of the first companies to agree to Apple's controversial DMA agreement to distribute apps outside of the App Store.
According to MacPaw Family Ltd's 2024 report, the company's revenue was $90 million, of which 80% came from CleanMyMac and 15% from its subscription app service Setapp. In an interview with Forbes Ukraine, Kosovan said the company is targeting $100 million in revenue by 2025. The revenue shares of CleanMyMac and Setapp remained unchanged from last year.
