“Today we are launching GenAI.mil. This platform puts the world’s most powerful advanced AI models, starting with Google Gemini, directly at the disposal of every American service member,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a video message.
Hegset noted that AI models on GenAI can be used to conduct in-depth research, format documents, and analyze videos or images at "unprecedented" speed.
He concluded that the US will continue to "actively implement the world's best technologies to make combat units more lethal than ever before."
According to Google, the new platform can perform tasks such as “summarizing policy guides, generating compliance checklists for specific projects, extracting key terms from technical specifications, and creating detailed risk assessments for operational planning,” writes The Verge.
The company clarified that employees can only use the platform for non-classified work, and that data from it is “never used to train Google’s public models.”
Google already provides artificial intelligence capabilities to the US Navy, Air Force, and the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Unit.
