"Do you have the numbers for me?". In the US, a woman won $150,000 in the lottery using ChatGPT

Carrie Edwards, a resident of Midlothian, Virginia, doesn't often play the lottery online. But this time, she decided to use ChatGPT to pick her numbers. She plans to donate all of her winnings to charity.

Carrie Edwards matched four of the first five numbers and an additional Powerball number in the Virginia lottery drawing on Sept. 8, giving her a big win. Although the starting prize was $50,000, Edwards decided to pay an extra dollar for the Power Play option, which tripled her winnings to $150,000, the New York Post reports .

Edwards used the ChatGPT app on her phone to pick her numbers. "I'm like, ChatGPT, talk to me... Do you have any numbers for me?"

Two days later, Edwards was sitting in a meeting when a notification on her phone said, "Please collect your lottery winnings."

At first she thought it was a scam. But after checking the news, she was in for a surprise that changed her life.

"As soon as this divine win came to me, I immediately knew what to do with it. I knew I had to give it my all because I was very lucky, and I want this to be an example of how other people, when they are lucky, can do good for others," she said.

Edwards promised to divide the entire $150,000 between three charitable projects that are close to her.

The first charity on her list is the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), an organization that supports research into the disease that took the life of her late husband in 2024.

Edwards will make his second donation to Shalom Farms, a farm that practices regenerative agriculture and works to ensure food justice.

The third organization on her list is the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which Edwards says is “very close to her heart.” Her father, a military pilot, supported the society his whole life, and she is continuing his work with this donation.
