The Global Economy publication calculated its traditional «brain drain» index for 2024, and Ukraine, unfortunately, ranks high in it.
Our country ranked seventh in the world in this indicator, ahead of only Samoa, Palestine, Jamaica, Eritrea, El Salvador, and Somalia.
At the same time, Ukraine’s index is 8.4, and Samoa, which is in first place on the list for «brain drain», is 10.
At the same time, if we take into account European countries, Ukraine, with an index of 8.4, is in first place, followed by Albania, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania.
At the same time, the index of the second «peaceful» Albania on the list is 8.3 and almost catches up with Ukraine, which is in the epicenter of a full-scale war.
The lowest rate of «brain drain» in the world was demonstrated by countries such as Australia (0.3), Norway (0.4), and Sweden (0.6).
Recall that the CEO of the Lviv IT cluster , Stepan Veselovsky, predicted that after the war, from 20,000 to 75,000 IT specialists would leave Ukraine .
