Ukraine has developed a sitcom with radar to intercept drones

Ukrainian company AirNet has introduced an innovative system that automatically detects and captures enemy drones using a grid.

According to the Military portal, the AirNet system weighs only 780 grams, has a modular design and can be installed on any drone. It works on the plug-and-play principle - just connect the power, rise above five meters, after which the radar is activated automatically.

How does a sitcom work?

The built-in radar determines the three-dimensional coordinates of moving objects (distance, azimuth, height) in a given sector. When the interceptor drone approaches a foreign UAV at a distance of 0.1-6 meters, the system independently analyzes the data and sends a command to launch. The pyro cartridge shoots a special net at a distance of 5-10 meters, which covers the engine blades of the enemy UAV, instantly blocking it.

The captured UAV remains attached to the interceptor drone. The strength of the thread allows trophies weighing up to 20 kg to be transported to a safe place for study.

If the captured object poses a threat (for example, carries explosives) or its weight exceeds the drone's capabilities, the operator can remotely activate the release mechanism, disconnecting the net along with the enemy UAV.

After completing a mission, the system is quickly recharged. Replacing the mesh cartridge and pyro cartridge takes a minimum of time.

Economic efficiency

AirNet emphasizes the economic feasibility of the development. According to them, one shot with the net costs about $50, but can disable any drone with propellers, including large UAV models.

The reliability of the system is achieved thanks to simple mechanics with a minimum number of moving parts.

Recall that the Ukrainian defense-tech company "General Chereshnya" presented an update to its flagship unmanned complex - "General Chereshnya AIR Pro", which is designed to neutralize enemy reconnaissance and strike UAVs.
