The SlimBeam portable laser system from the Ukrainian company Fulltime Robotics was unveiled at the IRON DEMO 2025 defense technology event. The Mezha.media portal reports that the SlimBeam has a power of 1.5 kW and two modes of engaging air targets: direct hit (up to 1 km) and optics blinding mode (up to 2 km).
A representative of Fulltime Robotics said that despite its power, SlimBeam is one of the smallest lasers in the world, weighing only 50 kg, which allows it to be mounted on a NRC. The device's developers note that to destroy a target, it must be guided manually for 5 to 15 seconds, so the development of automatic tracking is a priority.
The company notes that SlimBeam can be effectively used for civilian tasks, for example, removing obstacles from hard-to-reach structures - power lines, high-rise buildings, and cutting tree branches.
Previously, the former head of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Vadym Sukharevsky, expressed the opinion that Ukraine is the fifth country that can shoot down planes with a laser at an altitude of more than 2 km.
We also recall that this week dev.ua published a long interview with Tencore co-founder and CEO Maksym Vasylchenko about the rapid development of the ground robotics sector.
