The defense-industrial complex enterprise Ukrainian Armor, which specializes in the production of equipment, in particular, armored vehicles, ambulances and mortars, has begun to develop the field of UAV production. What is the peculiarity of their drone?
This was stated by the company’s CEO Vladyslav Belbas in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
According to him, the company currently supplies 20-30% of armored vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and by the end of 2024, it expects revenue to increase by more than 50% compared to 2023. The material notes that during the full-scale war with Russia, the revenue of Ukrainian Armor increased from UAH 103 million in 2021 to UAH 48 billion in 2024.
Belbas also said that the company is entering the UAV production market.
«We have developed an FPV drone with 60 mm ammunition. We are working on this together with the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are already gradually destroying the moskalyks. The Ministry of Defense is currently testing them», — said the CEO of Ukrainian Armored Vehicles.
He noted that the competitive advantage of this drone is the ammunition itself.
«We use the body of a 60-mm mine, which is currently less used on the front, as the body of an FPV gun. Such ammunition does not require scarce fuses — we simply screwed on the motors, wings, and battery, and it is easy to scale to millions of units», — explained Vladyslav Belbas.
According to him, this is a unique solution that allows the use of standard mortar ammunition. He added that it is important for the company to integrate this drone into a comprehensive system that includes artillery, communications, and control systems.
