Ukrainian company RATEL presented a new ground drone Ratel X for frontline work

Ukrainian manufacturer of robotic ground platforms RATEL has shown off the new Ratel X drone, which was designed as a completely updated machine for the needs of the modern battlefield, rather than as another modification of previous models.
According to the publication «Military», RATEL Director Taras Ostapchuk emphasizes that the team decided to move away from the approach of «another version of the old machine» and create a different class of robot. During development, engineers were guided by feedback from units that are already using ground drones on the front line.
One of the main solutions is the changed dimensions. The Ratel X body was made lower to make the drone more difficult to spot visually and from the air, and to better grip uneven ground. The wider body helps the machine not to tip over during sharp turns or driving on slopes. The platform also received two cameras, which improves visibility for the operator and simplifies work in difficult conditions.
Another emphasis on cross-country ability and speed. The drone has increased ground clearance, thanks to which it can overcome rubble, trenches and soft soil. Increased dynamics allow it to be used in active combat operations, when it is important to quickly change positions. Key components are covered with light armor so that the machine remains operational after close breaks and debris.
RATEL is already known for its ground-based drones used for logistics, evacuation, and strike missions. The Ratel X adds to this lineup as a more stable and maneuverable platform designed to operate closer to the front line.
In a broader context, such developments show that, along with aerial drones, Ukraine is systematically developing ground robotics. Such machines can take on the riskiest tasks, namely: reconnaissance, transporting ammunition, or working near enemy positions.
