Ukrainian-Estonian startup Teletactica received a grant from the Estonian Ministry of Defense to develop communications equipment for drones resistant to electronic warfare.
Teletactica has offices in Ukraine, Estonia, and Latvia. The Estonian team will focus on developing a new class of communication system that will be difficult to suppress with electronic warfare means, said Defender Media CEO and co-founder of the startup Yevhen Zhebko.
Although the project implementation period is one and a half years, the team expects to be ahead of schedule. The development budget is estimated at 300,000 euros, of which 40% is grant support, and the rest is the startup's own investments.
The contract with the Estonian military is based on the startup’s current experience in Ukraine, where the team has developed an ecosystem of communication products for drone control and video streaming. These solutions are compatible with most types of UAVs and are actively used in combat conditions.
Now, this experience is being transformed into a new product. As the startup told Caliber Defence, it will be a tactical communications system protected from electronic jamming with advanced control (C2) functionality for drones.
“During the 18-month program, we will develop prototypes, conduct laboratory and field tests,” the company said, adding that the testing will take place with the participation of partners in Estonia and the Baltic countries to demonstrate the system’s operation in conditions as close to real combat as possible.
In addition, Teletactica has begun producing its own drones to use for high-quality demonstrations. However, the company sees potential in this to launch a full-fledged line of UAV production and sales.
The solution is currently in the production and testing stages. The company wants to produce mobile copters that can operate stably at a distance of 35-40 km.
