Ukrainian miltech company SkyFall has shown off its new drone interceptor at the Dubai Airshow. The P1-Sun has a modular design with a 3D-printed body and is being produced in thousands of units each month.
A SkyFall representative told Bloomberg that the P1-Sun can fly at a maximum altitude of 5 km, and its initial maximum speed, which was 300 kilometers per hour, has been increased by 50%.
SkyFall noted that they developed the drone taking into account the wishes of the military to destroy the Russian Geran-2, in addition, the P1-Sun can also be used against helicopters.
«Gulf militaries may turn to Ukraine for drones as they seek cheaper but more accurate strike options. Tactical reconnaissance and short-range drones could be attractive options for border security, pipeline protection, and base defense,» says Kelly Grieco, a senior fellow at the Stimson Center in Washington.
Because Ukrainian drones are battle-tested and have years of proven effectiveness, they are far ahead of developments in other countries, SkyFall said. Western countries often consider it extremely important to avoid Chinese supply lines, and about 85% of SkyFall drone components now come from Ukraine, a company representative said.
The company also showed off modified versions of its Vampire bomber drones, Shrike FPV drones, and interceptor drones — all of which are used by the Defense Forces. SkyFall said these drones could also be adapted for civilian use.
