Ukrainian developer Anton Demchenko, who previously created an interactive map of Ukrainian YouTube, has launched a similar project for Telegram. The new map collects about 30,000 Ukrainian Telegram channels, which can be explored by topic, language, audience size, and geography.

Channels on the new map are represented by circles. The more subscribers, the bigger the dot. Resources that are similar in topic automatically form clusters. These include news, politics, technology, music, sports, education, military topics, cryptocurrencies, business, jobs, and many other areas.
By default, the map shows channels with 1,000 or more subscribers, so the screen doesn’t become a sea of dots. But you can lower the threshold to 200 subscribers. That’s where, according to the developer, the most interesting niche finds often hide.
You can also switch the map to views mode. Then the size of the channels changes noticeably. Some resources with large subscribers become much smaller, while others, on the contrary, grow. The ratio of views to subscribers is also shown for each channel, so you can roughly estimate how active its audience is.
The map also has a language filter, the result of which surprised the developer. Demchenko expected that the share of Russian-language resources would be much higher. However, if you leave only Ukrainian-language channels on the map, its appearance almost does not change. On the other hand, if you leave only Russian-language channels, the number of points decreases. The largest number of Russian-language channels remains in the clusters of cryptocurrencies, politics, blogs and news.
The developer also created a geographical Telegram map of Ukraine, where channels are tied to specific settlements. Demchenko even found channels in very small settlements. They had literally a few hundred subscribers, with local news, birthday greetings, and announcements of local holidays.
You can also make your own selections. For example, you can collect technology channels, job openings, or news from your region, and then open this list as your own little Telegram card and share it with others.
Users can also add to the map. For example, suggest a missing channel, report an incorrect city binding, or create their own selection.
The most difficult part of creating the project was understanding which of them really belong to the Ukrainian infospace. The sample constantly included Russian, anti-Ukrainian, and propaganda resources, and manually checking 30,000 would be very difficult. So if a user finds a suspicious channel, they can report it and it will be checked.
