Ukrainian startup EYA won a $10,000 grant to develop an application for children with speech disorders

Ukrainian startup EYA (Enhance Your Ability), which is developing a platform for assistive communication for children with speech disorders, won the WinWin Deep Tech Accelerator and received a $10,000 grant. How do they plan to spend the funds?

The EYA app uses artificial intelligence for fast, natural communication and works on regular smartphones and tablets, the press release states. Its idea was born from the personal experience of founder Serhiy Rylsky and his daughter, who lives with cerebral palsy.

«We believe in a world where every child has the right to be heard, and a diagnosis does not limit communication opportunities. EYA is a bridge that turns a child’s unspoken thoughts into a real dialogue with the world», — noted Serhiy Rylsky, Solutions Architect and Founder of EYA.

He created an application together with his brother Oleg and a team of like-minded people for people who have difficulty communicating due to injuries, disabilities, or age.

What will the grant be used for?

The startup plans to spend $10,000 to expand its eye-tracking testbed, which will allow it to adapt the app to different devices and make it accessible to users with different abilities. The team will also hire another developer to accelerate the implementation of AI functionality and expand the educational component of the app.

The WinWin Deep Tech Accelerator from the Good Governance Fund was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the UK Government.

«Ukraine has a powerful innovation potential that is revealed even in the most difficult times. We are pleased to support the growth of this ecosystem by helping startups access resources, mentorship and international partnerships,» said Jasmine Bourne, Head of Good Governance Fund Ukraine, British Embassy in Ukraine.

In addition to the winning startup, WinWin Deep Tech Accelerator brought together 7 more deep-tech teams working in the areas of HealthTech, AssistiveTech, IndustrialTech, EdTech, AgriTech and FoodTech. Over the course of three months, startups learned how to work with big data, attract partners, analyze the market and build competitive business models and go-to-market strategies. After the program, each startup participant can receive $25,000 in AWS cloud infrastructure.

«We are actively looking for options for integrating artificial intelligence into key industries: public administration, defense, education, medicine, and business. Thanks to such programs, the startup ecosystem generates fresh ideas on how AI can overcome challenges in these areas and address the specific needs of citizens, business, and the state,» said Oleksandr Bornyakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT Development.

What is known about the startups that participated in the WinWin Deep Tech Accelerator

EYA, an app for assistive communication for children with speech impairments. Transformed the concept from a social product to a business model while maintaining social impact, launched the first version, attracted the first 100 users. Now the startup is preparing to launch an updated AI module and premium subscriptions.

Ultra-Botics, a non-destructive testing detector for metal products to detect defects without damaging the material. We validated the AI component and understood how to adapt the product to different markets, including defense tech.

Tayra.AI, an AI assistant for doctors that converts audio recordings of patient appointments into structured medical notes. Optimized technical costs by 15%, preparing for integration into the Polish medical system. The startup plans to have 20% of Ukrainian doctors use the product and enter the markets of Poland and Romania.

Oh My Perfect Form, an AI-based mobile fitness app that analyzes exercise technique in real time. We created a cross-platform MVP, launched beta testing, received grant support from Seeds of Bravery, and developed a strategy to enter the US market.

JobAtlas, a company building an online platform for career planning. They launched a platform for determining career paths, moved from a B2C model to a B2B one, entered into partnerships with educational institutions to launch a pilot product, and adapted the needs to the EU market.

Request, an AI assistant for monitoring employee burnout and identifying its causes. We conducted a market analysis, narrowed the audience, and simplified the technical part.

Achief, an app that provides a meal plan based on medical tests and personal preferences. Conducted market analysis and gained initial traction for the MVP.

SPEROW, a digital ecosystem for farmers that helps create monitoring and analysis of technological maps, provides recommendations for growing different crops. Improved MVP and started testing with farmers.
