Abris Design Group, which created the Ukrainian ground robotic complex UNEX UGV, showed how the robot can transport up to 1.7 tons of cargo, overcome rivers, swamps and even ice. The robotic complex is also capable of independently loading containers without the presence of military personnel.
The UNEX UGV project manager spoke about the capabilities of the NRK vehicle in a video by "Military".
The robot can stay on the water for more than an hour and overcome water obstacles. According to the developers, the machine has already been tested on the Desna and narrow sections of the Dnieper. It is also capable of moving through swamps, flooded areas, or difficult off-road conditions.
The UNEX UGV has large tires with very low air pressure. This distributes the weight of the machine over a larger area, so despite weighing over two tons, the robot sinks less into soft soil and can move through swampy terrain.
The developers even tested whether the UNEX UGV could drive over an anti-tank mine without triggering it. During tests with training mines, they failed. However, such tests were not conducted on real mines.
A special cargo module was also created for the robot complex, which allows containers to be picked up and dropped off without human intervention directly on site. The operator can bring the machine up to the container, after which a special hook will hook the cargo, and the hydraulic system will pull it onto the platform. The robot can also unload the container on its own. The module is designed for approximately one ton of cargo.
This is especially important in dangerous areas where soldiers have to risk their lives even during the routine unloading of ammunition or provisions.
In addition to logistics, the platform is proposed to be used for the installation of demining equipment, air defense systems and other systems. The UNEX UGV can also tow wheeled equipment weighing up to 10 tons - for example, an artillery gun.
The UNEX UGV is fully electric. It has a 78 kWh battery and can operate for up to six hours without recharging. The claimed maximum range is up to 120 km and the speed is up to 20 km/h. The batteries can be charged in less than three hours from a 40 kW charging station.
The robot can be controlled via Starlink, secure radio communication or LTE. The robot's software allows you to plan a route in advance, receive images from cameras and connect video from a drone that will accompany it. Even if the connection is lost, the robot complex can automatically return to the points where it was still available.
The UNEX UGV is also capable of breaking thin ice while moving and, according to the company, even climbing out of water onto ice. The manufacturer claims an operating temperature range of −30 to +40–45 °C.
The team is currently working on an additional generator, which should extend the machine's operating time to approximately 12–14 hours.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that the UNEX NRC manufacturer became one of the five winners of the American military tests xTech Edge Strike Ground, which took place in Germany.
