And the President’s Office is preparing a decree on celebrating Programmer’s Day. November 13 is the last day for discussing the draft document.
Public consultations regarding the new professional world were initiated by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
«The draft Decree of the President of Ukraine „On Programmer’s Day“ is designed to recognize the important role of specialists in the field of information technology in the development of the digital economy, innovations, science and education of Ukraine, as well as to increase the prestige of the programmer’s profession in society. The establishment of a professional holiday of Programmer’s Day will contribute to the popularization of IT specialties, support for young specialists, development of human resources in the field of information technology, and enhancement of the image of Ukraine as a modern technological state,» the Ministry of Digital Affairs said in a statement.
The explanatory note to the draft document states that in the context of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which continues today, the development and support of the IT industry as one of the key components of the national economy and digital security of the state is of particular importance.
«Programmers play a strategic role in ensuring the resilience of critical infrastructure, cyber defense, developing digital solutions for the defense sector, and supporting financial stability through the export of IT services,» the authors of the document note.
Recall that previously, Programmer’s Day was celebrated by Ukrainian IT professionals every 256th day of the year, but the holiday turned out to have a Russian imprint.
Then the largest IT community DOU conducted a survey among specialists, and they chose the date of January 7 to celebrate the professional holiday.
The IT Ukraine Association also conducted an independent survey to determine a new date for the professional holiday. According to its results, more than 52% of respondents want to join International Programmer’s Day, which is celebrated on January 7. «We strive for January 7 to become a professional holiday not only for programmers, but also for each of the 330 thousand IT specialists working in the IT industry of Ukraine,» the IT Ukraine Association comments.
