An online translator from ordinary language to "appropriate" military style has been launched in Ukraine. How it works, and why it can be not only funny, but also useful
Ukrainians, in particular those compatriots who are in the ranks of the Defense Forces, have the opportunity to check the work of the «software complex for automating bureaucratic speech» — a translator for «consistent and appropriate».
Ukrainians, in particular those compatriots who are in the ranks of the Defense Forces, have the opportunity to check the work of the «software complex for automating bureaucratic speech» — a translator for «consistent and appropriate».
As the authors share on the project page itself, this is a humorous translator of everyday sentences into an overly complicated clerical-military style.
«The user enters a simple everyday sentence — for example, „I brewed tea“ — and the system produces an overly complicated „translation“ in the style of an official report: „I report: the personnel carried out the planned brewing of a tonic drink based on tea leaves…“. The humor is based on the contrast between the triviality of the event and the excessive, bureaucratic-official form of its description. The interface is intentionally dry — the whole joke lives in the translation text itself,» the authors explain.
At the same time, the authors of the translator emphasize that the development is nothing more than a tool for memes, but is not an official product of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or a tool for real reports, reports, and orders.
«Any use of it in official documentation or as an example of 'correct' style is a direct error,» the authors note.
You can log in to your personal account through Google, Apple, or Telegram accounts, and the service has a limited number of free translation requests.
There is also an option to select a specific branch of the military so that the translator uses the vocabulary specific to that branch.
Interestingly, on social media, some military personnel, in addition to their enthusiasm for the translator’s work and appropriate humor on this topic, note that some servicemen use the tool to write reports.
