"There will be no Fire Point - there will be no Ukrainian defense industry." The Ukrainian Council of Gunsmiths called for abandoning "witch hunts" and "quick political reflexes" in the scandalous story with the company
The Executive Director of the Ukrainian Council of Gunsmiths, Ihor Fedirko, called for an objective investigation into the Fire Point company’s ties with the scandalous businessman Timur Mindich and the latter’s influence on obtaining defense contracts from the state, but at the same time emphasized that the nationalization of the manufacturer of Flamingo and long-range drones would have catastrophic consequences for the entire Ukrainian defense industry.
«Such companies are not created by order of the minister and are not restored a week after a high-profile political decision. I am convinced that there will be no Fire Point — there will be no Ukrainian defense industry,» he said about the possible consequences of drastic political steps.
Fedirko added that any accusation must be proven «through facts, documents, investigation, and court decisions,» especially when it comes to a company from a defense-critical sector.
«The investigation should establish facts regarding possible illegal influence, beneficiaries, contracts, and management decisions. Witch hunts, public verdicts before the investigation is completed, and nationalization as a quick political reflex are bad decisions. During wartime, in the most critical sector for the country’s defense, such steps can create more risks than solve problems,» the executive director of the Ukrainian Council of Arms Manufacturers believes.
At the same time, he expressed his belief that if illegal influence on defense contracts is proven, hidden owners of a company are identified, or a state resource is used for private interests, «this should have legal consequences.»
«People who turn proximity to the state, political connections, or access to the defense sector into their own coffers must be held accountable. Without privileges due to surnames, status, friendship, or past merits,» Fedirko noted.
