Ukrainian Catholic University is opening a new interfaculty Center for Data, AI and Society. Ukrainian Catholic University is opening a new interfaculty Center for Data, AI and Society. It will become a scientific hub for research at the intersection of technology and social sciences, as well as a platform for international collaboration in the field of responsible artificial intelligence and digital technologies for the public good.
The initiative was formed, in particular, on the basis of almost four years of cooperation between UCU and the Center for Responsible AI at New York University (NYU) within the framework of the Responsible AI for Ukraine program. During this time, the program has involved over a hundred Ukrainian students from more than 20 universities, collaborating with 35 institutions from 12 countries and implementing 50 research projects.
The Center for Data, AI, and Society aims to combine fundamental research with practical solutions. Its mission is to develop world-class science, transform findings into policies and technologies for the reconstruction of Ukraine, strengthen social resilience, and train a new generation of interdisciplinary researchers.
«The Center will function as an interfaculty hub that will unite researchers from different fields, work in collaboration with an international advisory committee, and remain open to partnerships with universities, business, the public sector, and the state. A separate role will be played by public initiatives, in particular the Data & Society Talks series, aimed at communicating with a wider audience,» notes Tetyana Zakharchenko, head of the Center and head of the Bachelor’s program «Computer Science» at the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
