Vibe coding is taking over Silicon Valley: tech companies have a new requirement for candidates

Vibe coding is gaining traction in Silicon Valley, with the skill being a common requirement in tech job postings. Visa, Reddit, and other companies are looking to hire people with the skill to accelerate product development.
Business Insider found job postings from Visa, Reddit, DoorDash, and many other companies that explicitly require experience with vibe coding or familiarity with AI-powered code generators like Cursor and Bolt.
Last month, Visa posted three generative AI engineer positions for its Austin office, with «required knowledge of vibe coding tools» listed among the requirements for candidates.
Meanwhile, Reddit is looking for an engineer who can build and maintain integrations with AI coding tools, including Cursor and Bolt. The company wants this engineer to interact directly with the broader community of vibe coders to gather feedback and «drive adoption.»
DoorDash is also looking for an engineer familiar with these tools, and cybersecurity unicorn Snyk wants to hire someone with «deep experience» in vibe coding.
Y Combinator startup Domu Technology has called vibe coding a «must-have» skill and one that is «non-negotiable.» The ad says candidates must generate at least half of their current code using artificial intelligence.
These ads have one thing in common: speed.
Most of these ads mention that the company is looking for people with knowledge of vibe coding so that its engineering teams can release products faster.
For example, streaming service Tubi wants an engineer to integrate AI-powered coding tools into its daily workflow to «increase speed.» And Udacity wants to «accelerate» product development by hiring someone familiar with Cursor and Anthropic’s AI assistant, Claude Code.
Visa’s job postings also state that vibe coding is intended for «rapid» code generation and prototypes within the company.
But all these announcements don’t mean that someone with no coding experience, armed with a $20 monthly subscription to Cursor, can easily land a senior software engineer position.
Vibe coding is relevant for companies largely because it helps engineers spend less time on «template code» and focus on more complex tasks.
Vacancies with vibe coding skills have also started appearing in Ukraine. One of those that has aroused keen interest among IT professionals is a vacancy for a vibe coder with a salary of up to $12,000 .
Vibe coding has its pros and cons, as shared by Artem Grigorenko, a team leader with expertise in software development and testing, and the author of a blog about QA and Management. He tried vibe coding to automate Random Coffee, a pair-based meeting for his community.
