«AI has a vampire effect: it excites you, you work really hard and you get a huge benefit,» Yegge told Business Insider.
The programmer noted that companies need to understand that while agent-based artificial intelligence can make engineers significantly more productive, pushing the boundaries will simply exhaust their employees.
«I seriously believe that founders, CEOs, and engineering leaders at all levels, all the way down to line managers, need to realize this and understand that you can only get three productive hours out of someone who is coding at top speed. So do you let them work three hours a day? The answer is yes, or your company will go bankrupt,» he said.
Yegge said his fellow programmers should set boundaries when using vibecoding. He said he began to notice increased drowsiness and irritability.
«I find myself napping during the day, and I talk to my friends in startups, and they’re napping during the day too. We start to get tired and irritable,» he said.
Recall that a new study published in the Harvard Business Review also confirms that companies that rely on artificial intelligence technologies risk having exhausted employees. AI has made them more productive, but they have only added work.
