Why AI interviews are inferior to live conversations: a case study from a Senior QA Engineer who refused an interview with a bot recruiter after a bad past experience
The development of artificial intelligence continues to change IT recruiting, but not all specialists are ready for interviews with bots. Senior Manual QA Engineer Viktoriya Mozharska rejected the offer to undergo automated selection and, based on her own experience, explained this decision.
The development of artificial intelligence continues to change IT recruiting, but not all specialists are ready for interviews with bots. Senior Manual QA Engineer Viktoriya Mozharska rejected the offer to undergo automated selection and, based on her own experience, explained this decision.
Invitation to AI interview
The engineer received an email inviting her to the next stage of the selection process for the position of QA Engineer. The company offered a virtual interview with an AI bot lasting 20 to 40 minutes, which included audio and video recording of the conversation. The email stated that the artificial intelligence would evaluate the candidate's answers, and recruiters and hiring managers would use this score to make a final decision.
Why did the candidate refuse the offer?
Despite the fact that the company guaranteed human review of the results and a flexible schedule (at any convenient time within 5 days), Victoria decided to reject the offer.
"I decided to decline further communication. For me, selection is a two-way process where the candidate also evaluates the company, its culture, and approaches," the Senior Manual QA Engineer explained her decision.
Previous bad experience
The main reason for this reaction was the previous experience of passing a similar interview with artificial intelligence, which turned out to be ineffective and specific.
"I've had experience with interviews with AI before. It looks like this: the bot asks a question, you answer, and in response you hear only a mechanical: 'Thank you, I understand.' No clarification, no live reaction or dialogue. You're just talking into the void," Mozharska shared.
Why a live recruiter is better than algorithms
According to the specialist, a full-fledged interview is not just a check of dry facts from a resume, but also an opportunity for the candidate to feel the vibe of the company, ask counter-questions, and understand who they will have to work with.
“Artificial intelligence can save a recruiter’s time, but it completely deprives candidates of the opportunity to feel the person on the other side of the screen. A live recruiter sees the context, asks clarifying questions, and conveys the company’s values. Currently, no algorithm can replace real emotional contact and professional dialogue between people,” concluded Victoria Mozharska.
"Welcome to the matrix. After 5-7 such interviews, you get used to it and start to look and answer normally." Aitov residents share their experience of passing interviews with AI recruiters
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
