Visa implements artificial intelligence to dispute transactions

Visa has announced the launch of six new and updated payment dispute resolution tools, most of which are powered by artificial intelligence and are designed to help businesses and banks automate processes and reduce financial losses from fraud.
The main emphasis in the new products was placed on generative AI and predictive analytics, which are intended to replace manual work when disputing payments (chargebacks). In particular, the Visa Dispute Recovery Manager service uses generative AI to automatically generate responses on behalf of merchants during disputes, while simultaneously assessing the chances of a successful refund. The full deployment of this feature is expected by the end of 2026.
For issuing and acquiring banks, the company has launched Dispute Intelligence, which analyzes every fraud or dispute case based on global Visa network data using predictive AI models. Another solution, Dispute Doc Analyzer, uses algorithms to quickly analyze and “compress” key data from documents provided by merchants, saving analysts time reading case files.
The company plans to combine all these processes into a single AI-based dispute management platform, Case Manager, which will work with various card networks.
"Disputes place a strain on every element of the payment ecosystem, causing discomfort for consumers while increasing costs and complexity for merchants and financial institutions. When outdated technologies fail to keep up with modern challenges, fraud goes unnoticed," said Tetyana Chorna, Vice President and Regional Manager of Visa in Ukraine.
The problem of payment disputes is becoming more widespread due to the growth of e-commerce. According to the company itself, in 2025, Visa processed 106 million disputes worldwide. This is 35% more compared to 2019, which forces payment systems to look for new technological solutions to optimize costs.
