As reported by the Vodafone Ukraine press service, the company is thus launching a large-scale project to use renewable energy sources.
«In the face of constant challenges for Ukraine’s power system, Vodafone is investing in a solution that will reduce the load on the power grid and ensure additional resilience of critical communication infrastructure. Each base station will receive its own solar power plant with an energy storage system, which will allow the facility to partially cover its energy needs from renewable sources,» the mobile operator noted.
Before that, solar power plants were tested at three pilot sites in the Poltava region and the city of Dnipro.
Each system includes 3.6 kW solar panels and inverters, which allow the use of solar-generated energy during peak load periods or grid outages.
According to forecasts, the use of solar energy will allow Vodafone to reduce consumption from the centralized electricity grid by about 300 MWh per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 210 tons per year.
We will remind you that during the last large-scale Russian shelling and the subsequent blackout , about a hundred base stations of the mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine switched to battery power in Kyiv, Kyiv region, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy.
