Information about the extraordinary event was published by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv. It was confirmed by the press service of Nova Poshta.
According to law enforcement officials, the detonation occurred at approximately 04:15 during the inspection of one of the shipments. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service, explosives technicians from the Metropolitan Police, and emergency medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene. The fire that arose as a result of the explosion was quickly localized and extinguished.
The company confirmed the death of its employee and named the injured. The deceased was 58-year-old Ivan Zhariy, while 41-year-old Vadym Protsenko and 37-year-old Denis Karachov were injured and are currently under medical supervision.
The press service of the logistics operator expressed condolences and promised to provide comprehensive financial and organizational support to the victims. «We are in constant contact with their families and provide all necessary assistance and support. The company will also take care of organizing the funeral of the deceased colleague,» Novaya Poshta noted.
The sorting facility is currently temporarily suspended as investigations and specialized services continue to establish the causes of the detonation and the origin of the dangerous cargo. The company stated that it is fully cooperating with the investigation and refrains from further commenting on the possible causes of the incident until the official investigation is complete.
