Startup Underdog has created a local AI model for text-to-speech, which takes up 32 MB and can work without the Internet. They created a small browser game to demonstrate it.
American startup Underdog has introduced Woof, a local AI model that converts written text into speech and takes up only about 32 MB. It can work without an internet connection. To demonstrate its capabilities, it even created a demo in the form of a small browser game.

The developers have also put Woof on Hugging Face, so anyone can download it and experiment with it, though the license only allows non-commercial use without separate permission.
In the demo, the developers invite users to enter a virtual room filled with old technology. There is a typewriter, a lamp, a monitor with a kinescope, and a computer.
You can type any text on the typewriter and have the AI speak it out. You can also switch music on your computer and listen to songs created with Woof. You can even interact with other objects in the room.
Woof has about 31 million parameters—internal settings that the model learned during training. For comparison, large modern AI models can have tens or even hundreds of billions.
Such a compact model is unlikely to replace much larger voice AI systems. But for some tasks, its capabilities may be enough. For example, for speaking messages, creating personalized podcasts, or working with voice assistants that do not require a constant Internet connection.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that Vodafone Ukraine top manager Serhiy Borislavskyi created a free AI application Zapyso for iPhone and Mac. It transcribes audio recordings and creates notes without connecting to the Internet and transferring data to third-party servers. The service uses two local AI models with a total size of about 4 GB to work.
