Yasno warns of new reality: power outages could last more than 16 hours
Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko spoke about the current electricity situation in Ukraine and explained why the usual outage schedules no longer work. According to him, the country is effectively transitioning to a 4-5-shift system, which means significantly longer periods without electricity.
Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko spoke about the current electricity situation in Ukraine and explained why the usual outage schedules no longer work. According to him, the country is effectively transitioning to a 4-5-shift system, which means significantly longer periods without electricity.
Kyiv: emergency shutdown mode
Emergency power outages are currently in effect in the capital. On average, Kyiv residents have about three hours of power and up to ten hours without it, but these figures vary greatly depending on the district.
Kovalenko emphasized that a significant part of the problems is not related to main networks, but to accidents inside buildings — in house networks, for which housing offices or condominium associations are responsible.
«The algorithm of actions remains unchanged: first we contact the housing office or condominium association. The electrician conducts an inspection and draws up a conclusion. If the problem is in the house, it is eliminated on the spot, if in the networks, they submit an application to the operator,» he explained .
Dnipro and the region: schedules are not what we are used to
In Dnipro and the region, electricity supply is carried out according to schedules, but not according to those that were previously advised to be guided by. According to the CEO of Yasno, the situation in the power system has changed significantly.
If previously more than four queues meant emergency outages outside of schedules, now Ukraine actually lives in a four, five, or even five queue mode.
More than 16 hours without light — what does it mean?
Kovalenko emphasized that the previous guidelines are no longer relevant. The maximum intervals of seven hours without light and 3.5 hours with light no longer apply.
«With restrictions of five out of six shifts, outages can last more than 16 hours. This is the current reality,» he said.
At the same time, according to him, even rigid and long schedules are better than the complete unpredictability of emergency outages, as they at least provide guidelines for planning work and life.
Is it worth waiting for improvement?
It is difficult to talk about a quick improvement in the situation yet. According to Kovalenko, the power system has to survive a period of severe frosts — with warming, electricity consumption may decrease.
At the same time, the key factor remains the attacks on energy infrastructure, which are impossible to predict.
«This is not because of the energy industry, but because of the cynical attacks of the enemy, who is trying to create a humanitarian catastrophe,» concluded Director General Yasno.
Businesses have become real points of invincibility for Kyiv residents. Restaurants, shops, gas stations, shopping malls, and post offices invite you to warm up and recharge. In communal «points of invincibility,» people often just throw up their hands.
