Android Authority reports on the appearance of the option. According to the publication, the first mention of the function came from user Diego on Telegram: when viewing lyrics in the application, a new item «Translate» is displayed. Currently, the translation is automatically adjusted to the system language on the smartphone — there is no separate language selection within the lyrics yet, but you can change the language of the application itself in the YouTube Music settings.
Not everyone has access to the new feature. Android Authority draws attention to a screenshot from a Reddit user, where a pop-up window clearly states that the option is available only to YouTube Premium subscribers. This coincides with the limited nature of the test: the editorial staff of the publication also did not see the translation on their own devices, so the launch is being selective and without announced deadlines for wider deployment.
Previously, YouTube Music only displayed lyrics in the original language. The translation in the player itself makes life easier for listeners who discover music in different languages: now you can understand the content without switching to third-party services or searching for fan translations. The «original + translation» display format is also convenient because it leaves the context — the user sees exactly how a particular line is interpreted.
If the test is successful, Google will be able to gradually open the option to a larger audience and add missing settings — for example, an explicit choice of translation language. For now, the feature works as an experiment for a limited group of users and, according to Android Authority, is tied to a Premium subscription. The company does not specify when it will be available to a wider audience.
