The peak of the outages occurred between 2 and 4 a.m. The Downdetector service, which tracks problems and outages of popular Internet resources, illustrates the problem this way.
The largest number of complaints came from the United States — over 268 thousand, followed by about 62,000 complaints in the United Kingdom, and about 19,000 in Japan.

The video hosting service has now been restored. However, Google has not commented on the situation.
It should be noted that YouTube is one of the largest video hosting sites in the world, providing the ability to upload, view, and comment on videos. The service is actively used by both private users and large companies to distribute content.
Ahead of the outage, on October 15, YouTube introduced a series of visual and functional updates that will affect the platform’s web version, mobile app, and TV app. The changes are aimed at making the interface more intuitive and «immersive,» and interaction with content more convenient and modern.
The main update is a redesigned video player. It has become «cleaner and more immersive» thanks to updated controls and new icons. According to the developers, the updates will reduce the number of visual distractions so that users can focus on the video itself. The company has also updated the «Search» function, which allows you to rewind videos by double-tapping the screen. It now has a «more modern and less intrusive look». In addition, navigation between tabs in the mobile application has become smoother and more natural.
YouTube has also paid attention to the user experience. Key changes include:
- Like animations: For certain videos, unique Like button animations will appear—for example, a musical note when liking a music video.
- Updated video adding. The process of saving videos to Watch Later or playlists has become more visual and convenient.
- Threaded Comments: Comments are now displayed in a tree-like format, similar to Reddit, making it easier to read and discuss. This feature is already available on Android and iOS, and will soon be coming to other platforms.
According to YouTube, the global rollout of the updates will begin this week, and the new design and features will gradually become available to all users around the world.
