According to Friar, OpenAI's revenue has tripled over the past year and is growing in proportion to the power of its AI infrastructure. This data reflects the company's progress in the three years since the release of ChatGPT, writes Neowin.

Based on this dynamic, Friar argues that having more computing power during these periods would allow for faster customer acquisition and monetization.
OpenAI relied solely on Microsoft for infrastructure in 2023 and 2024. After renegotiating the terms of its long-standing partnership with Microsoft, OpenAI is now working with multiple AI infrastructure providers to meet demand. Friar said this shift from a single provider to multiple has allowed the company to plan, fund, and deploy new capacity more confidently.
“Infrastructure expands what we can deliver. Innovation expands the capabilities of intelligence itself. Scale of adoption expands the circle of those who can use it. Revenue funds the next leap. This is how intelligence scales and becomes the foundation for the global economy,” says Friar.
In January alone, it became known about three OpenAI deals: with Cerebras , a competitor to Nvidia, for $10 billion, the acquisition of medical startup Torch , and Convogo , an AI tool for executive coaching, which became the ninth "purchase" of the year.
