Ukraine's largest state-owned bank, PrivatBank, processes about 60,000 transactions per minute, making this volume an obvious target for hackers and cybercriminals.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, PrivatBank has faced over 1.5 million cyberattacks, which amounts to thousands of attacks every day.
This was stated by the chairman of the bank's board, Mikael Björknert, in an interview with The Banker.
According to him, to strengthen protection, the bank applies the principle of "zero trust", limiting employees' access only to the systems necessary for their roles. In addition, PrivatBank regularly conducts vulnerability tests of systems with the involvement of independent international experts.
Recall that PrivatBank has one of the largest IT departments among Ukrainian banks : as of the end of 2024, it employed 1,669 technical specialists; 1,748 employees in IT departments.
According to Forbes Ukraine estimates, IT department spending in 2024 could reach $72 million .
