Global Connect's internet cable between Finland and Sweden has been damaged in two locations on land.

The Finnish publication SVT reports that the cause of the incident remains unknown at this time, but repairs are already underway.

"In connection with the circumstances of the event, there is a suspicion that this is sabotage. The government is in contact with the responsible authorities and is monitoring the development of events," said Minister of Civil Defense Karl-Oscar Bolin in a comment for this publication.

The accident caused problems with fiber optic networks, but according to Global Connect, they are close to being fixed.

"The authorities are investigating this issue together with the company. We are taking the situation seriously," commented Lulu Ranne, Minister of Communications of Finland, on the Kh. social network.

The Swedish publication Ekot claims that the police are looking for perpetrators who may be involved in damaging this infrastructure.

Yes, two communication cables running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea were damaged, but the cause of the damage is not yet clear. The C-Lion 1 communication cable between Finland and Germany is completely severed, and in addition, another communication cable between Lithuania and Sweden is damaged.

Recently, dev.ua also reported that submarine cable breaks caused five times more damage to traffic between Europe and Asia than researchers had previously reported.

As of the beginning of this year, there are 574 operating and planned submarine telecommunication cables in the world, which depend on global Internet access and the transmission of traffic between continents.
