According to the Zaporizhzhia police, with the involvement of three more accomplices, the defendant rented offices for pseudo-financial call centers. He also acquired customer bases of EU citizens on the DarkNet.
Then they selected those who had experience investing in cryptocurrency and called them, posing as employees of well-known financial institutions or European regulators and offering services to return lost funds. The “help” cost from $1,000 to $5,000. Special software was used for the calls so that they could not be tracked.
Victims were offered to download an electronic wallet and transfer funds to it for “converting into cryptocurrency,” after which communication was terminated. The received assets were transferred to controlled accounts.
It is known that through these call centers they defrauded three foreigners of over 340,000 hryvnias.

In March last year, during a large-scale special operation, three suspects were detained, and searches were conducted at call centers and at the suspects' residences in Zaporizhia, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. As a result, computer equipment, draft documentation, bank cards, and ammunition were seized.
The indictment against the two men has now been sent to court for consideration on the merits. The criminal proceedings against the other two defendants have been separated into separate proceedings in connection with their search and mobilization.
The detection measures were carried out jointly with the Cybercrime Department of the Main Criminal Police Department of the Latvian State Police, with the assistance of Europol and Eurojust.
