A Ukrainian created the Your Bar app for mixing cocktails at home. What is its functionality?
Ukrainian developer Yuriy Shcherbyna has developed and released on Google Play and the App Store the Your Bar app, which analyzes home alcohol supplies and suggests cocktail recipes that can be mixed «here and now.» The service allows users to add ingredients manually or by scanning barcodes, and also supports complex filters for searching for specific components.
According to the developer on Reddit, the idea arose from dissatisfaction with existing apps. Yuriy wanted to create a tool with a nice interface and ingredient substitution logic, which competing products often lacked.
«I made an app for myself, because the ones that exist are either ugly or don’t have the functionality I need. When I finished it, I decided that I should try to make money from it,» says the creator of Your Bar.
The app has a number of features focused on ease of use. In particular, it provides automatic portion conversion and a choice of measurement systems — from milliliters to ounces or parts. The «one more ingredient» hint system advises which bottle to buy next to maximize the expansion of the cocktail menu, and support for multiple separate bars allows you to share stocks at home and, for example, at the dacha.
Currently, the project’s monetization is based on the Amazon affiliate program, which actually limits the main profit to the US market. Despite the lack of developed partner networks in Ukraine (like Amazon), the developer added full Ukrainian localization. The author also plans to develop a CRM system for professional bars, but the feasibility of this direction is currently being analyzed due to specific business requests.
