Zhytomyr explosives engineers mastered French Iguana IEDs for demining

Specialized training for a group of explosives technicians of the National Police of Ukraine, who spent two months mastering the work with modern Iguana ground-based robotic complexes (GRCs), has been completed in Zhytomyr.

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine. The training course was held at the Zhytomyr Police Academy with the participation of instructors from the French company Geomines and with the support of the Embassy of France in Ukraine.

A key element of the training was the mastery of Iguana systems — high-tech robots designed for reconnaissance and manipulation of explosives. The training program covered EOD 1 and EOD 2 (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) levels, which allow specialists to work with complex demining scenarios.

Iguana E is a versatile modular platform designed to operate in extreme conditions. The robot is equipped with an articulated «arm”-manipulator with a high degree of freedom, which allows it to lift loads, open doors and work in hard-to-reach places, such as under the bottom of a car or indoors. The operator controls the machine remotely using cameras and sensors, which allows it to identify types of ammunition without direct contact with them.

During the final tests, the graduates demonstrated the capabilities of the technology: using the Iguana robot manipulator, they removed a «dangerous object» from the car interior and transported it to the place of destruction.

«French instructors not only armed our police officers with advanced experience, but also gave them the very demining equipment to perform combat missions. Modern robotic systems protect the lives of our specialists, and their professionalism saves the lives of thousands of Ukrainians,» the head of the educational institution emphasized during the graduation.

Geomines has transferred Iguana complexes to explosives units, which will soon be sent to frontline regions and deoccupied territories to clear land of remnants of Russian ammunition.
