Much "smarter" AI-Siri and new functionality in IOS 27. What Apple announced at WWDC 2026

Apple has finally introduced its updated artificial intelligence assistant Siri.

At the WWDC 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference, the company announced that the updated Siri will be available in beta this year, TechCrunch reports .

The new «Siri AI» is set to evolve from a voice assistant to an AI companion that can perform many more tasks. The new AI assistant will launch alongside a dedicated Siri app.

In particular, the new Siri will be able to draw on modern knowledge to inform answers to your questions. In addition, the updated assistant will be able to access information on the user’s device and answer questions based on what is displayed on the screen.

This transforms Siri into a fully-fledged AI chatbot to compete with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The update marks a significant shift for Siri, which has been positioned as a simple voice assistant until now.

The new «Write with Siri» feature will allow users to get help with writing text. Among other things, users will be able to ask Siri to perform more complex text-based tasks — such as writing messages based on specific information and a topic for discussion provided. To do this, Siri will be able to pull information from the web and previous emails, as well as details from the user’s calendar, contacts, and more.

The tech giant also claims that Siri AI will have a completely new voice experience.

What’s new planned for iOS 27?

Apple also released a large number of updates to iOS 27, which were announced at the same event.

First of all, Apple has redesigned the search system on its devices, acknowledging that the previous search worked imperfectly. «We’ve all had a moment where you’re looking for something that you know exists, but it just doesn’t show up,» admitted one of the company’s top managers, Stacey Ford.

For example, the mailbox will receive a new email sorting algorithm that will allow you to find exactly the messages you really need, regardless of the date they were sent.

As for the so-called Liquid Glass, the Cupertino company has introduced a major redesign of the system’s appearance, adding new animations and significantly more options for customizing effects.

Among other things, Apple announced a significant simplification of working with the Shortcuts application in iOS 27. Apple Intelligence will be added there, so users will not be able to configure algorithms themselves, but will be able to write a regular text query to create any automation.

In general, Apple Intelligence’s artificial intelligence system will manifest itself in new photo editing tools, intelligent tab organization in Safari, generation of realistic images in Image Playground, and creation of commands using voice or text input.

The company didn’t stop there: Apple announced new dictation features based on Apple Intelligence, which work together with Gemini. The feature is integrated into the standard keyboard and will work in all applications. At the same time, AI will «take over» the role of the editor, cleaning speech from parasitic words and formatting text, correcting spelling, and so on.

Apple also introduced its new MacOS 27 Golden Gate, adding a large number of updates to optimize performance and speed.
