Internet traffic in Ukraine grew by 1.8% in 2024, and traffic from Starlink almost 3 times
The American company Cloudflare, which provides network services, has published its annual report Cloudflare Radar 2024 on the state of the Internet in the world and in individual countries. It is noted that Ukrainian traffic is dominated by Google products, but the Yandex search engine is still used by more than 3%, and Yandex Browser is more popular than Firefox. As noted in the report, the peak growth of Internet traffic in Ukraine in 2024 fell in October and amounted to 27%. It is indicated that during the spring and summer, traffic sagged, reaching a peak of -24% in July. Overall, compared to last year, traffic in Ukraine grew by 1,8%.

«SpaceX Starlink continues to provide satellite Internet connectivity in previously unserved or underserved locations. We analyzed the cumulative Cloudflare traffic volumes associated with the autonomous service system (AS14593) through 2024,» the report says. It notes that Starlink traffic in Ukraine has grown 2.8 times .
As for mobile traffic, the share of Android devices is 74,6%. This is less than in 2023, when it reached 78,7%. On the other hand, Apple gadgets increased traffic from 21,3% to 25,4% .

In 2024, Cloudflare analysts counted 6 major internet outages in Ukraine. 3 of them were related to the hostilities of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The rest were due to power outages, technical problems, and cyberattacks.
The average internet speed in Ukraine was 106 Mbps.
«While internet connections are most often sold and purchased with an emphasis on download speed, upload speed is becoming increasingly important as we spend more time using video conferencing and live streaming tools,» the Cloudflare report states.
Ukrainian traffic is not malicious. In 2024, Cloudflare «mitigated» only 8,4% of traffic from Ukraine, of which 4,2% were involved in DDoS attacks. In addition, the Ukrainian share in global bot traffic is only 0,4%.
Cloudflare Radar 2024 notes the following global trends:
overall traffic growth of 17,2%.
32.6% of mobile traffic is on iOS devices.
41.3% of all traffic comes from mobile devices.
Google has the most popular internet service, browser, and search engine.
4.3% of emails are malicious, almost half of which contain a malicious link.
68.5% of global traffic comes from just 10 countries.
