"It was my mistake that I didn't ask, but simply closed my eyes to the things I saw." The aspiring designer told how she quit her IT company the very next day after leaving. Here's why she made such a decision
Anastasia Krystopchuk, a UX/UI designer, told the story of how she quit her job after working for the company for just one day. The girl gave several reasons for this decision.
Anastasia Krystopchuk, a UX/UI designer, told the story of how she quit her job after working for the company for just one day. The girl gave several reasons for this decision.
«Many were curious why my working career lasted exactly one day, I even felt like a blogger (so I want to emphasize that my vision of comfort may differ from yours, and for some people these conditions would be normal, and that’s okay, I just wouldn’t feel like continuing to work in this company,» Anastasia wrote .
The specialist said that when she came for the interview, she was not told in detail about the office schedule and some internal rules. «It was my mistake that I didn’t ask, and I just turned a blind eye to other things that I saw,» she notes. The girl described what she didn’t like about the company and outlined the reasons for her dismissal.
«In general, let’s talk from the light one, which I could still put up with through my teeth, to what became the final nail in our cooperation.»
Office. There’s a camera in the office that immediately shows everyone on the screen, like in a store. Just like you’ve seen in the movies.
Then there is a ban on using a mobile phone, even if you have no active tasks.
You are also fined for being late. There are 5 breaks of 5 minutes each and a 30-minute lunch, sorry, I had experience working as an office manager, I had internship experience in other IT companies, so similar things already seemed a bit of a banner to me, fines for being late — when they subtract minutes from your working time: for 1-5 minutes — 10, and so it grows and grows. I think you understand the principle. Being late after a break for 1-2 minutes — immediately minus 5 minutes, and if more than 5, then minus 20 minutes.
The pay there is hourly, if I understand correctly, and it will be based on how much time you worked.
Lunch breaks are unpaid, phones can only be used in emergencies with the manager’s permission, and employees are also prohibited from communicating in personal chat rooms.
«It’s like, we walked through something that wasn’t very pleasant, but if you really have to, you can endure it,» the designer described.
She also described a situation that «brought her into a stupor.» «There is a project that other designers have been working on for some time, I emphasized that I am a beginner, without any wow experience, and I still have to learn and learn. Due to a lack of staff, I was thrown alone on a project that is quite difficult for me, where the skills that I, as a beginner, do not yet possess are used. It would seem that it would be a cool opportunity to quickly master, but the second designer, who also had this job as his first, had his own big project, and you understand that there is no adaptation period there, there is no team and hierarchy either, forever shaking a person who has a project himself, well, not okay. There was hope that the company would understand who it was hiring, but no. There was also a situation that I cannot tell you, but briefly — due to technical problems, the project stalled and, perhaps, it would have to be done from scratch, and I was expected to be able to do it in two days. «And my eyes are round, and at that moment I thought that even two months wouldn’t be enough for me,» shared Anasasiya.
Also, according to her, the tasks are approved by a manager who understands nothing about design. «And if he wants, you can make the OK button red and the Cancel button green,» the girl says.
Another rule that confused Anastasia is working through an individual entrepreneur: «And one last thing: they open an individual entrepreneur for you? And you pay it from your own salary, that is, the salary announced in the vacancy is tax-free.»
The girl does not disclose the name of the company.
The people of Aitovo are actively commenting on the girl’s post.
Senior Wordpress/PHP/React/Laravel Developer Valentyn Gorobets notes: «If the salary is 10 times higher than the market, then you can try until you burn out — at least 1-2 months.»
«Regarding sole proprietorships and taxes on one’s own salary — unfortunately, there are a lot of such things now, I would even say the majority (if we talk exclusively about my experience and the experience of my acquaintances). Everything else described — I don’t even know how to comment. I didn’t even think that such things existed,» noted Executive & Business Operations Natalia Yefremova.
Unity team lead Mikhail Khadzhinov shared his assessment of the described. «I will say it is unpopular. On the one hand, this crap is a mixture of a concentration camp and apathy, yes. But I believe that if you don’t have experience, you need to get it by any means. This is the main goal of a beginner, not a cozy office with coffee, cookies, and a tennis table. Of course, if you have a lot to choose from, you should leave such offices. That is why there is a high turnover of personnel in such places, people do not stay. And that is why it is worth asking about it at interviews — like in a company with layoffs,» he noted. Mikhail said that he once worked for a company that had as many people laid off in a year as there were employees there. «This is a bad marker for the company. But at the same time, I met many ambitious beginners there, for whom this was the first or second step in their bright future career. «They gritted their teeth and gained the necessary experience,» the AIT resident noted.
The designer asked how IT professionals feel about working with time trackers and other control tools. What do experts see in this — a whip or a sleight of hand?
