«As long as I do my job and do what’s required of me, I don’t feel any guilt about it at all,» Damien told Business Insider.
For Damien, the extra income has allowed his wife to quit her job while she plans her next career move. She also spends her earnings on furniture, restaurants, and travel.
«I had so much money I didn’t even know what to do with it,» he said.
Damien already had a main job with a salary of $140,000 when he found a new full-time job in September for $150,000 a year. He recently took a third contract job, also full-time, which will bring him about $78,000. So the IT specialist plans to earn $368,000 in 2025.
He plans to keep all three jobs and increase his income by taking on two more jobs.
«I just have a hard time saying no because I feel like if I can squeeze it in, why not?» the man says.
This is not the first time Damien has juggled jobs. In 2021, he worked in IT support and earned $90,000 a year. Once he was offered another job, where he paid about $110,000. At first, the man wanted to refuse the first, preferring the second offer. But then he thought that he had so much time during the workday that he sometimes went to the gym, so why not try to combine the two. He worked like that for almost a year, then agreed to a new position with a salary of about $135,000.
One of the factors that initially motivated him to abandon his overwork was that the two companies were in the same industry. Damien said that there were times when he was invited to meetings from «job A» that were attended by people working for «job B.»
Around June 2023, Damien became more confident in his ability to juggle multiple jobs without being noticed and took on contract work as an IT consultant. Last September, he took on a second full-time job.
Damien averaged no more than 40 hours a week between his two jobs. When he had online meetings at the same time, he used two sets of headphones: AirPods in one ear and in-ear headphones in the other.
«I think I’ll work until I feel like it’s negatively affecting my life,» he said, adding, «I have time. What else do I have to do?»
