In 2024, the Ukrainian defense industry achieved significant growth. If in 2022 its potential was estimated at $1 billion, in 2024 production volumes increased to $20 billion, this year this figure reached $35 billion — this amount is almost commensurate with international assistance last year.
This was told by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, to Forbes Ukraine.
In 2024, 30% of the weapons used by the Ukrainian military on the front were manufactured in Ukraine. Compared to 2023:
the production of 155-mm self-propelled howitzers increased threefold;
production of armored vehicles — five times;
ammunition — 2.5 times;
anti-tank guided missiles — twice as many.
96% of drones on the front are Ukrainian-made: a third of the country’s defense market is focused on the production of drones, another 5% is for electronic warfare equipment, the minister said.
Thanks to naval drones, Ukraine has reduced the combat potential of the Russian Black Sea Fleet by 30%, and long-range UAVs have hit more than 300 targets deep inside Russia this year alone.
The first 100 missiles have already been manufactured, and the serial production of R-360 “ Neptun ” cruise missiles, modernized to hit targets at longer distances, has been scaled up. The production of “ Palyanytsya «, “ Ruta ” and “ Peklo ” drone missiles is also being developed, which have already demonstrated their effectiveness in destroying strategic objects on the territory of the Russian Federation.
In addition, in 2024, 10 countries allocated $1.6 billion for the development of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex.
