UAH 340 million almost went into cash. Why did EasyPay urgently close the withdrawal of "thousands of wool" from the mobile accounts of Ukrainians this morning

CEO of EasyPay payment service Oleksiy Avramenko told dev.ua why the service blocked the refund service from a mobile account.

«Tonight, the first people managed to cash out funds through EasyPay through mobile operators. But in the morning, the service blocked this possibility,» he noted.

According to Avramenko, on December 10, EasyPay observed an abnormally high number of new registrations — 340,000 users, while usually the number of new users does not exceed 1,000. Accordingly, the possible amount of cashed out funds could amount to UAH 340 million, if the service had not disabled the return function funds

Formally, says Oleksiy, there is no violation in the return of funds by users. «But when there are returns, the very philosophy of the initiative is violated. It is my understanding that this thousand that comes to the national cashback card is designed to support a national manufacturer that creates jobs and pays taxes. The thousand is not a handout, it is support for the national economy,» the entrepreneur explained.

As Avramenko informed, currently it is still possible to order a refund — for this, you need to write a statement to the mobile operator and ask for a refund. «It’s just that returns won’t be as fast as with EasyPay,» he said.

We will remind you that earlier Avramenko admitted that Ukrainians took advantage of the opportunity to transfer the 1,000 hryvnias received from the state to «Winter eSupport» in cash.

«Unfortunately, we have been forced to turn off the 'money back' feature for Vodafone and Life subscribers. Because there are „especially smart“ Ukrainians who decided to slander the idea of 1,000 hryvnias of „Winter Support“ in this way. The service will not work for everyone due to misuse of state aid,» he wrote .

In the evening of December 10, it became known that Ukrainians found a way to cash out the targeted funds received from the state, although the range of services and goods on which you can spend «one thousand» is quite limited.

dev.ua asked for a comment from mobile operators to understand how the scheme worked.

As Vector previously wrote, since December 2022, Kyivstar has no way to transfer money from a mobile account to a bank card. The work of the «Smart-Money» service, through which it was previously possible to send funds, has stopped. The reason was a change in the company’s development strategy and the desire to focus on specialized telecom services.

Vodafone customers have the option of transferring money from a mobile account to a card. You can use the specialized EasyPay payment service. It is available both on the website (just go to the «Transfer money» section) and as a mobile application for Android and iOS. The software can be downloaded for free in Google Play or the App Store.

Lifecell allows subscribers not to look for workarounds, how to transfer money from a SIM card to a bank card. They can do this through the Paycell payment service, available on the operator’s website and in the company’s application (it can also be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store).

According to the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, the funds have already reached 1.8 million adults and 520,000 children.
